Long before Johnny became an arborist, the verse we cited on our wedding invitation said: "Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows." (James 1:17).

Because we believe that everything we have has been given to us by God, and because it is our desire to teach our children by our example how to be "cheerful givers", Northshore Tree Experts will donate a percentage of our sales to charitable organizations that touch our hearts. This is not just a tree service to us - this is our legacy.

With all that's happening right now, we figured this would be one of the best places we could help out this month.

Many of us are laid off or unable to work, and even many of us who are working are having a hard time getting by, and the Barrie Food Bank works tirelessly to make sure everyone can keep putting food on the table.

In addition to providing food for those in need, the Barrie Food Bank encourages self sufficiency, as well as personal and family well being. We've seen the paper bags at your doors on our door-hanger walks so please consider filling one and delivering it to your closest drop off location!

Aubrey's Act logo

May 2020

When we discovered Aubrey's Act last year during infant loss awareness month, it was an immediate response that we needed to sponsor them. Leading up to our son Maxwell's birth at 28 weeks gestation last year, we also spent 5 weeks in Mount Sinai's high risk obstetrics unit, and saw just how quickly parents can go from scared but hopeful, to completely devastated. We were comforted in knowing that parents there were given time with their little angels before having to say their final goodbyes, so we're so thankful that Aubrey's Act took on the task of raising the funds for a CuddleCot for RVH to allow parents from our community the same chance.

No parent should have to rush their last goodbye, especially when it's when they should be saying their first hello. No parent should have to worry about how they will pay for their baby's funeral. No parent should avoid grief counselling simply because they can't afford it.

For those reasons, and for the many heart broken parents left behind by their sweet babies born into heaven, we have decided to support Aubrey's Act this month.

Ronald McDonald House logo and the owner's family at the house

June 2020

Our choice for our Giving Back charity was a bit emotional for us this time around. Ronald McDonald House was there for us when our youngest son was born at just 28 weeks gestation, and words really can't convey to you how much it meant to be there. They were even more on our hearts this month as we recently had a medical update on one of our other sons and know we will likely be relying on them yet again to be our home away from home while he undergoes surgery and recovers. For this reason, and for all the other families out there who have been blessed by this organization, we've chosen to support RMH Canada this month.

Tracy, Scott and the kids with Alegre Sonido de Dios logo

July 2020

The Blackburn family is dear to our hearts because we can so clearly remember their life-altering transition as we watched our fellow church-members leave everything they had - house, business, family, and friends - and move to Peru to follow God's will for their lives. Not only is that exciting to see, but extremely encouraging, as the work they are doing is such a wonderful thing to be a part of, even if only through prayer and finances. We were reminded of them this month as we received updates online of Scott's recovery from COVID-19.

Scott and Tracy live in Puerto Maldonado with project Alegre Sonido de Dios, a home for children of all ages who have suffered at the hands of their abusers, and have cared for over 25 children who have come from varying backgrounds including sexual abuse, violent abuse, abandonment, and orphans.

Scott and Tracy provide a caring, loving home where the children can heal, so they may interact and maintain a close relationship with their new family, assuring a smooth re-integration into society.

Starlight has been an amazing blessing to our family - in fact we have the unique experience of being a multi-generational Starlight family, since Johnny was a Starlight kid himself. Just this year, they granted Tyson a Wish of a Lifetime, and sent all of us on a family trip to Give Kids the World Village in Florida, where we had the best trip of our lives making memories. I can't describe how incredible it was, nor thank God enough for his timing (had we gone one week later, our trip would have been cancelled halfway through due to Covid-19), but one thing that stood out the most, was the incredible thought and care that went into providing all the little details that made it so amazing - from accessible villas/parks/rides, to extra helping hands when getting our meals, to taking pictures for us all week long to make sure we got to enjoy the moments without being

pandemic. I wish I could make you listen to all the amazing things that went on that week, but I know if I make this too long, you might not read it. So to sum it up: Starlight is an amazing foundation, and we are proud to support them now and in the years to come as they bring joy to seriously ill children and their families.

RVH logo and photos of the owner's family in the NICU

RVH is our local hospital that continues to gain sentimental value for our family. It's where Malachi was born, it's where Tyson has had numerous appointments and fabulous specialists support him, and it's where Maxwell spent 7 weeks in the NICU after being transferred from Mount Sinai. So when we saw they are now raising funds specifically for the NICU expansion, we had to choose them. We are so very thankful for the care our son received there, but we know that this unit could benefit from some more room to maneuver in, as well as some privacy for parents during a very trying time of their lives. At the time of writing, they are currently running a 50/50 draw, so it's an excellent time to consider supporting them in reaching their goal!

Christmas Cheere logo

October 2020

Christmas Cheer felt like a pretty obvious choice for this time of year. As they continue to grow every year, they now cater to nearly 1760 families in Barrie and the surrounding area that are in need over the Christmas season, and with COVID-19 having such a strong impact on our economy, we can only image that this year they will have an even higher demand. It's not too late to help them reach their goal of $250,000, so please consider donating today!
